Gratitude Letters – Maharaji

It is so wonderful to write letters – maybe never send them – to those who we feel so grateful for … the below is for my first spiritual teacher who taught me meditation so long ago …
Letter to Maharaji
Oh, the joy of coming home, to light that seemed endless, to love so pure and deep. Was this truly all within me? It seemed so simple yet a joke, that the seekers seek something that they have held within all along.
I was young then in 1972 and so naive, I longed with all my heart to leave this foreign world where I never felt that I belonged. To later discover that I am part of something that is everywhere and that belongs everywhere, was such a gift of freedom!
Today I am free and I thank you for those twenty years with you revealed so much.
So now my cosmic travelling soul is at peace, belonging to all, I am one.
My breath has set me free, you were right in this, my Beloved teacher from traditions so ancient and true.
Serve, you said, meditate and find the teacher within, share the words of truth that spring from the fountain of your soul and you will find me there for you and I are one. All this you said to those who had answered your call.
Yet I was young and this world was so distracting then.
The busyness of life, to stand alone to raise my family and yet you were always there in those silent moments where stillness was the key, where my breath would begin to slow and my open heart would seek you in the silent spaces deep within.
Through you, I found the pathway home, that place to rest, where planets stood still and deepest truths are felt and known. There is no me or you there, there are no planets to roam, just the endless void of a love whose light has not yet been born. It is at our core and it is true home.
I cried tears of joy when I sensed this deep within the ones you had set to roam this Earth, cosmic travellers just like me. I longed for what they had without knowing it at all, I longed for the love that flowed so freely through their eyes, for their purity of heart. Young mahatmas, old mahatmas and bringers of an ancient way to be at peace once the truth of our being is known.
To immerse myself in all that it contains … this set me free and for this you will always be with my heart … first teacher, real and known.
I feel you still in this world of ours, your mission clear and true, touching the lives of millions more as like me you continue to roam. Gypsy travellers with cosmic souls awakened to the more.
Thankyou Beloved one for you will always be Beloved in my heart.
I ask myself what is the true Beloved if not one whose heart is true? Our Beloveds set us free from the illusion of a limited world and set free we find the limitless deep within.
Was the one who opened my eyes to the endless light within, my first true Beloved?
My mind drifts back through the memories that can get distorted with time yet my memories of those ones never dim.
How can a day of revelation ever be forgotten? How can the day of remembrance, of experience of the truth of that which we are, ever be forgotten or dimmed in the memory pool we carry deep within?
A true Beloved is beloved for the way our heart is touched, forever transformed by love.
To be born to the truth of who we are is the greatest gift we can ever be shown and when this truth becomes a living awareness that expands and deepens over time to keep us in its field of Grace, how can the one that triggered this ever be forgotten?
Thank you Maharaji, thank you.
